MOUNT KAILASH & MANASAROVER YATRA-TIBET

Pilgrimage to Mansarovar and the Holy Mt. Kailash

                   Mt. Kailash claimed to be the apex of the Hindu religious axis is also one of the highest mountain in Tibet at 22,022 feet, and Lake Mansarovar at 14,950 feet is said to be the highest fresh water lake in the world. Certainly a difficult region to reach due to the variable and extreme weather conditions. The distance from Lhasa for example is approximately 2000 km. Only during the last few years have lots of ordinary and not so ordinary travelers, been able to experience this region. Road conditions are difficult much of the time and we have to make many preparations to ensure that we have a reasonable chance of reaching Kailash. We need to bring our own food and camping equipment. Basic lodges and teahouses can be found but the plateau is so remote that it is possible to travel for several days without finding food available.
      To travel for days on this remote plateau with the chance encounters of nomads herding their sheep or yaks is to be transformed into another way of life, to see and become part of such a devout pilgrimage as shown by pilgrims around Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar is to put some aspects of our western way of life into proper perspective. We begin the tour by traveling to Kathmandu and departing by road to the Nepal/Tibet border town of Zhangmu where we collect our Transport. We travel by the SOUTHERN route and after our pilgrimage (religious or secular) we return by the same route. The day to day program is outlined as follows:

Day 01.         Drive from Kathmandu (1303m) to Kodari, and drive continue Nayalmu. (3800m) Overnight at hotel.  165 kms. 8 hrs.

Day 02          Drive from Nayalamu to PAIGUTSO (4850m) 221 kms. 7/8 hrs via Menhating and Tongla Pass (4990m) Overnight in camp.

Day 03          Drive form PAIGUTSO to Saga (4640m)115 kms. 6/7 hrs. . Overnight in camp

Day 04          Drive from Saga on further towards and stay overnight at Paryang (4540m). 185 kms. 7/8 hrs.  Overnight in camp.

Day 05          Drive from Paryang and Cross the Mayumla Pass and drive to Lake Mansarover (4700m)  250 kms.   6/7 hrs. Overnight in camp.

Day 06          Day free for rest and excursion, purification bath in the Holy Lake, etc. O/N camp.

Day 07          Drive to Darchen (4700m) for Kailash parikarma. Start trek to Dira Puk ((4909m) O/N

Day 08          Continue parikarma over Dolmala Pass (5650m) to Zuthul Puk. Overnight in Camp.

Day 09          End Kailash Parikarma near Darchen (4700m) O/N at Guest house.

Day 10          Drive from  Darchen to Paryang (4540m). 277 kms. 7/8 hrs. Overnight in tent.

Day 11          Drive from Paryang to Saga (4840m) 185 kms. 8 hrs. O/N camp.

Day 12          Drive from Saga to Paigutso. (4850m) 115 kms. 6/7 hrs. Overnight in tent.

Day 13          Drive from Paigutso to Nyalamu (3220m) 21 kms. 7/8 hrs. O/N at Guest house.

Day 14          Drive from Nyalamu to Kathmandu 125 kms. 5/6 hrs.

THE ABOVE COST INCLUDES:- China visa/Travel permit / Land transfers as per itinerary / Local English Speaking Guide / Yaks & Yakmen, support truck during trekking around Mt. Kailash / Twin sharing accommodation during guest house and tented camp with full board Veg meals/ Trekking Equipments and food camping period. COST DOES NOT INCLUDE: Travel insurance / urgent China Visa fee /Nepal re-entry visa fee/  Expenses of private nature such as laundry, telephone calls, beverages, tips etc. Any loss arising due to unforeseen circumstance such as accidents, road blockage due to landslides or snowfalls, etc / sleeping bags & mattresses.
